Summer Is Ending, but the Moonloom Disc Is Forever

Moonloom all year round

Summer is slowly ending, but the Moonloom disc is forever.

The season may be changing, but comfort, confidence and freedom never go out of style.

I know, I really do… We’re all having a tiny crisis because summer is coming to an end—even though it officially lasts well into September. Somehow, September always feels like both a fresh start and the end of summer.

We often talk about the biggest benefits of a menstrual disc during summer, but it’s time to say it: a menstrual disc doesn’t just make summer easier. It can improve your life every single month of the year.

You probably work out all year, right?

I’m guessing the gym—or your home workouts—doesn’t see you only one month before summer. A menstrual disc can become your best workout companion. Go for a light run, practise yoga or enjoy a slower training session without constantly checking whether something has leaked. You can focus on moving your body and actually be present in your workout.

You wear leggings in autumn and winter too, don’t you?

I personally love autumn and winter fashion, but you’re probably not dressed in loose clothing all the time. Sometimes it’s leggings, fitted jeans or a slim skirt. A pad may hide under jeans, but under leggings—whether you like it or not—it can create that visible “nappy” look.

And it’s not only about appearance. There’s also the damp feeling, rubbing and rustling. A menstrual disc is completely different. It sits beneath the cervix and tucks behind the pubic bone, where you shouldn’t feel it at all—just don’t forget it’s there. No pressure, no shifting and no visible lines.

What about long workdays, university and back-to-back meetings?

September brings autumn and a full schedule of new commitments. You might spend the entire day in lectures, jump from one meeting to the next or get so absorbed in a project that you forget the time. Running to the bathroom every few hours with a bag full of tampons and pads is hardly ideal.

If your flow isn’t exceptionally heavy, your disc can last for up to 12 hours. If needed, empty it after nine hours or sooner—you’ll quickly learn what works for your body. Insert it in the morning, forget you’re even on your period during the day, then empty it again in the afternoon or evening.

Up to 12 hof comfortable protection, depending on your individual flow.

In the mood for sex—but you’re on your period?

This is a safe space, so we can admit that sometimes our libido rises during our period too. But because of the potential mess, we often decide it may not be the best idea. Then we’re irritable and redirect all that extra energy elsewhere—usually into aggressive cleaning.

To save you from that—because I’m sure your kitchen is already sparkling—here’s another advantage: you can comfortably have sex while wearing a menstrual disc. Unlike a tampon or menstrual cup, it doesn’t occupy the vaginal canal, so you can relax and enjoy yourself without making a mess of the sheets. You’re welcome!

Do you really need to keep spending money on pads and tampons?

Once you buy a reusable menstrual disc, the monthly spending on tampons, pads, wipes—or whatever else you normally need—comes to an end. Your disc can last for years, so the money you would have left at the drugstore can go towards a good coffee, a new book or a massage instead.

€34.90for a reusable disc designed to last for years—and you may even catch it on sale.

As the cherry on top, you’re also helping create a better tomorrow. Most pads and tampons create a significant amount of waste; a reusable menstrual disc is a far gentler choice for the planet.

What about your health and your skin?

Do you get little spots or irritation along the bikini line from pads? Even after your period ends, that uncomfortable feeling can linger, and it seems to take forever for your skin to calm down.

Tampons come with a different issue. Just as dry, heated indoor air can dry out your skin in winter, tampons can have a drying effect too. Along with blood, they absorb your natural protective moisture. A menstrual disc doesn’t absorb fluid—it simply collects it. This helps preserve your natural moisture and may reduce the dryness and irritation associated with absorbent period products.
